Mar 11 2013 – Electrical Geodesics, Inc. (“EGI” or the “Company”), today announces that it has been awarded a 36-month group purchasing agreement with the Premier healthcare alliance as part of its polysomnography, neurological equipment and accessories contract. From May 2013, the new agreement allows Premier members, at their discretion, to take advantage of special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier for EGI’s clinical Geodesic EEG Systems, Geodesic Sensor Nets and accessories.
EGI develops and markets proprietary electroencephalography (EEG) solutions used to monitor and interpret brain activity for the clinical and research markets in a diverse range of applications. Its product line includes conventional EEG products as well as its signature line of dense array electroencephalography (dEEG) products.
dEEG is widely used in neuroscience research laboratories and is becoming more common in clinics, care centers, and hospitals around the world. Dense array EEG uses up to 256 electrodes positioned non-invasively on the scalp, which provides more detailed information about brain activity compared to conventional EEG. The Geodesic Sensor Net allows this large number of electrodes to be applied in both a fast and comfortable manner. The rapid stream of information about the brain can be measured and visualized using the Clinical Geodesic EEG System (GES) 300. The GES 300 contains software tools for visualization of the scalp and the estimated source of electrical activity.
Ann Bunnenberg, President & COO of EGI, comments: “We are very excited about our first contract with the Premier alliance. EGI’s commitment to transforming healthcare through advanced technologies aligns well with the values of Premier. This new agreement will make EGI’s clinical product line, including its flagship dense array EEG technology, available to more physicians and hospitals across the U.S. This supports our shared goal of helping Premier hospitals to provide cost effective advanced neurological care to serve their communities.”
Premier healthcare alliance
Premier is the nation’s largest performance improvement alliance of more than 2,800 U.S. hospitals and 90,000 other sites using the power of collaboration and technology to lead the transformation to coordinated, high-quality, cost-effective care. Owned by healthcare providers, Premier operates a leading purchasing network with nearly $5 billion in annual savings. Premier also maintains clinical, financial and outcomes databases based on 1 in every 4 patient discharges. A world leader in measurably improving patient care, Premier has the largest performance improvement collaboratives in America, including one in partnership with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Premier also has an office in Washington.
EGI was founded in 1992 with a vision of developing high-density EEG systems for neurological research. In the past 20 years, EGI’s dense array EEG systems have come to dominate the field of neurophysiological research and are used by the most prestigious research laboratories in the world. The quality of data and ease of use have also made EGI systems attractive to hospitals and clinics, which have been adopting EGI’s dense array EEG technology at an increasing pace. EGI has over 80 employees and is based in Eugene, Oregon, where its strong ties with the University of Oregon are instrumental in development and testing of new technologies.
