From Startup to International Company
EGI is celebrating 20 years since our founding in May 1992. We’ve come a long way in 20 years. When EGI first started, 64 channels was considered extremely dense array EEG. Now, 128- to 256-channel EEG is routine for researchers on the cutting edge of brain research all over the world.
EGI's original dense array Geodesic Sensor Nets were such a novel idea, they looked like something out of a science fiction movie and were sewn together with needle and thread. Now, they are manufactured using state-of-the-art technology and represent the easiest to use and most comfortable electrode placement system on the market. Similarly, our amplifiers and software have improved dramatically, and now support multimodal imaging, source estimation, and more, as part of a complete Geodesic EEG System for advanced EEG.

1,000 Customer Publications
20 years of cutting edge neuroscience research
The importance of EGI’s platform is reflected in the number of research papers published using this next generation EEG technology — 1,000 papers at our last count. Across the growing field of human brain science — from development, sleep, hearing, motivation, decision-making, emotional regulation, learning, and attention, through to clinically important studies in autism, coma, mental illness, and epilepsy — dense array EEG from EGI is on the forefront of research.

Early Markers of Autism in Infants
dEEG used to investigate ERP differences
Featured in the BBC News earlier this year, EGI’s 128-channel dense array EEG (dEEG) system was pivotal in a new study searching for early markers of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in infants. Previous research had indicated that early intervention is effective in supporting children with ASD, helping them to achieve their full potential despite potentially disabling difficulties in social interaction. Working with the hypothesis that earlier markers of ASD could allow earlier, more effective intervention, Mayada Elsabbagh, from The Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development at Birkbeck College University of London, collaborated with a large team of researchers from several institutions to look for very early markers of autism.

New Sensor Nets Better Than Ever
Available for Routine, LTM, and MR environments
In July 2011, EGI launched a new Net design, the HydroCel Geodesic Sensor Net (HCGSN) 130. This new design provides the same sensor layout and electrode performance as the earlier HCGSN 120, but has improved mechanical strength, with special attention to the wire-electrode interface. Customers find the new design faster to use, with less worry about wire breakage while applying the Net. The new Net design is available for order in all sizes and channel counts.
In May 2012, we launched the HCGSN 220 MR, extending the new design to Nets for the MR environment. The HCGSN 220 MR have an equivalent sensor layout and electrode performance as the previous HCGSN 210 MR products, but the same more robust mechanical design as the HCGSN 130. All customers ordering new MR Nets will receive the new HCGSN 220 MR product with new product numbers.

Linking Your GES to Other Products
EGI’s Interoperability Standards Program
EGI started the Interoperability Standards Program last year with one broad goal in mind — to make it easier for our customers to use EGI’s Geodesic EEG Systems with their own specialized software or with products from other vendors. EGI is dedicated to providing tools that allow you to design and execute the very best experiments you can think of, even if we don’t make all the needed tools ourselves.
We are collaborating with other companies and software engineers to add functionality to the most popular commercial and open source programs. We are happy to report that we have completed testing with several third-party software products, which are now able to read Net Station 4.5 MFF data files.

Symposium on dEEG and fMRI
Report on EGI symposium at OHBM 2012 in Beijing
Over 200 people attended EGI’s symposium entitled “Simultaneous fMRI and Dense Array (256 Channel) EEG: Addressing Practical Challenges and Spatial Resolution” at the Organization for Human Brain Mapping conference held in June 2012, in Beijing, China. The symposium featured Dr. Xiaoli Li, Dr. Gary Glover, and Dr. Jidong Hou.

“Concussion in Athletics” Conference
dEEG to be featured at conference that brings together medical experts, researchers, and clinical practitioners
The latest research on concussions will be discussed during the “Concussion in Athletics: From Brain to Behavior” conference at Penn State University, October 11–12, 2012. Topics featured will be clinical assessment of sports-related concussion, advanced neuroimaging and brain imaging tools, management of concussion, and biomechanics of helmets. EGI’s dEEG products are important for evaluating concussion and will be a topic of discussion during the meeting.
