How Do We Learn to Speak?
Through the study of the language development in toddlers and the learning abilities of a robot it is possible to show how we learn languages. This is the view of Francisco Lacerda, professor of phonetics at Stockholm University and EGI customer, who is studying the learning of oral language in children – a field that reaches far beyond the domains of phonetics.

Training in the UK - Register Online!
We have just completed another successful Summer School in Eugene, and it's time to take the show on the road already. We will be holding an International School at the University of Birmingham, England from September 27th to October 1st. Register online or download the registration form. You can find a schedule for the school on our EGI Education page, but do look out for some science talks which will be added over the next few weeks. This school is ideal for both new and experienced users of our system, as it will consolidate your net application skills, take you through the useful features of our Net Station software and introduce you to advanced analysis techniques. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any questions you may have about your system and, most importantly, it will allow you to meet other EGI users. We look forward to seeing you there! |

Stress and Sleep
In course of our daily activites we are subject to various levels of stress. The Italian CNR set up a laboratory at the Scuola Superiore di Sant'Anna and the University of Pisa called Extreme. At the Extreme center, scientists categorized the key types of stress conditions and used dense array electroencephalography (dEEG) and other body monitors such as electrocardiology (EKG) to measure the effect of stress on the body and the mind.
